Makerspace needs a new space
Posted by Dave L on Saturday, 02-Nov-2019

Makerspace needs a new ~3,000 sq ft space ASAP. BTC classroom needs have left us without a quiet dust free space. All our stuff is now in the workshop and woodshop (the later is shared with BTC).

All the tools and workbenches are being moved into the workshop. The electronics station, 3D printers and vinyl cutter are moving to the back of the room. The front of the room is becoming a BTC classroom.

The woodshop machines are now at the back of the space along with the BTC machines. This is a shared space, do not use the BTC machines. Our machines all have a Bellingham Makerspace sticker.

New Tools
Posted by Dave L on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2019

Grizzly has donated some nice cordless tools. We now have a cordless grinder, jigsaw, oscillating multi-tool and impact driver. All cordless tools and accessories are in the second from bottom drawer in the big rolling tool-chest.

John from SPARK Museum donated a nice little dust collector. Nothing we had could keep up with the chips generated by the planer so this is much appreciated.

Volunteer Meeting
Posted by Dave L on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2019

Saturday, July 13th from noon to 2

"for all of you who are interested in volunteering on an ongoing basis at the MakerSpace, we will be holding a general volunteer and orientation meeting on Saturday, July 13th from noon to 2. We will discuss available volunteer opportunities, updates on our volunteer policies and benefits, upcoming projects, potential teaching opportunities and more. For anyone interested in becoming a part of our volunteer team or teaching with us, this will be a great event to attend. We will also go out afterwards for some fun team building and volunteer appreciation party, and maybe catch a show at the Upfront."

"While the main volunteer meeting will be on Saturday, a number of our volunteers have other plans that day, so we will also be having a short meeting for interested volunteers on Monday evening at 5:30 where we will cover many of the same topics in a somewhat abbreviated format."

Operations Coordinator
Posted by Dave L on Thursday, 06-Jun-2019

Rebecca is taking over for Yi-Vonne as interim Operations Coordinator. Apparently this is the only paid position at Makerspace and applications are being accepted.

Plant Sphere
Posted by Dave L on Thursday, 06-Jun-2019

Makerspace is building a plant sphere. The CNC cut parts are currently sitting on a pallet in the woodshop. The only other things I know is that it will end up somewhere downtown (parking garage?) and that John is involved in its construction.

The Growroom
Posted by Dave L on Saturday, 20-Jul-2019

While this is a bit after the fact, the sphere is an open source project of (IKEA idea lab) Space10 called The Growroom. Two links, an article about it [link] and the plans/instructions (5.4MB zip) [link]
